The Reward of a Merciful Heart

"HaShem gave you mercy and He will show you mercy" (Devarim 13:18).
What is the secret of the double expression of "mercy" that is mentioned in this verse?

HaShem endowed us with tender feelings of mercy and empathy for our fellow man, i.e.. "HaShem gave you mercy." When we act mercifully to others, HaShem acts mercifully to us, i.e., "He will show you mercy." This is amazing! HaShem instills within us the holy attribute of mercy, in order that we be found worthy of His abundant mercy, compassion and love!

Lesson: A person who shows mercy to HaShem's creations, merits to be surrounded by the boundless mercy of HaShem!
(Based on Shabbos 151 and Chovos HaLavavos Sha'ar HaBitachon)
