D'var Torah: ״Man did eat the bread of the mighty; He sent them provisions to the full״ (Tehillim 78:25). The Mannah had the magical property of delivering whatever taste the eater so desired. What was the secret of this phenomenon? The Mannah was actually the "Light of HaShem." When a person partook of the Mannah, its holy emanation enlightened his mind. His clear awareness of HaShem awakened his senses to the full array of material and spiritual delights. As a result, he enjoyed the Mannah according to the taste of his choice. We see that the power of thought is the key to discovering the real pleasures of life. Therefore, the more a person contemplates that his enjoyment is a gift from HaShem, the more pleasure he will experience.
Moral: Seeking the physical aspect of earthly pleasures diminishes our capacity to enjoy. Whereas, uplifting our thoughts to recognize that HaShem is the Source of Good, dramatically enhances our sense of enjoyment.
Application: Contemplate the fact that our awareness of HaShem intensifies our enjoyment of both material and spiritual pleasures. Take a moment before you eat your meal to increase awareness that HaShem sends your daily food and nutrition. Enjoy the taste of the food and the joy of knowing HaShem's love and care for you.
