SF - The Sweetness of Wisdom \ Parashat Vayakhel - Pikukdei

"My son, eat honey for it is sweet to your palate, so too, wisdom is sweet to your soul" (Mishlei 24).

King Solomon, may peace be upon him, compared wisdom, which is an intellectual pleasure, to honey, which is a bodily pleasure.

We see that King Solomon consistently made comparisons between the body and the soul.

HaShem created man out of two contrasting elements -- the material body and the spiritual soul.

The body is the more dominant force because, in this stage of our existence, we live in a physical world.

Therefore, it is necessary to speak in terms of the material body to influence people spiritually!

In light of this, King Solomon compared wisdom to honey.

He understood that in order to influence the soul to love wisdom, it is essential to compare the sweetness of wisdom to the sweetness of honey.

How can we internalize this lesson?

Take a little honey and say to yourself, "Just as honey is sweet to my palate, so too, wisdom is sweet to my soul."
(Based on the commentary of Rabenu Bachya to Parashat Vaykehel, as explained by Rabbi Mordecai Goldstein, Zecher Tzadik L'Vrachah)
