Spiritual Empowerment Upon returning to Israel, Yaacov was confronted by an angel who was Esav's spiritual counterpart. They battled so fiercely that the dust under their feet rose up to heaven. Yaacov clung tenaciously to HaShem and prevailed. However, in the midst of the struggle, the angel injured Yaacov. Before departing, the angel blessed Yaacov, "No longer will it be said that your name is Yaacov, but Yisrael will be your name, for you have battled with an angel and with man and have overcome" (Bereishis 32:29). Subsequently, HaShem healed Yaacov with the light of the sun. Lesson: The confrontation between Yaacov and the angel foreshadows that Klal Yisrael will be endangered in each generation. Nevertheless, we will always prevail and triumph, just as Yaacov did. Moreover, the blessings and healing that Yaacov received signify the great light that will shine upon us at the time of our redemption, when the dominance of Israel will permanently endure. App: Sometimes we face challenges which overwhelm us. When that occurs, envision Yaacov Avinu overcoming a warring angel by relentlessly putting his trust in HaShem. Transpose Yaacov's unshakeable faith in HaShem to your heart.
