SF - Mordecai the Jew

"For they told Haman that Mordecai was a Jew" (Esther 3).

It seems strange that Haman was unaware that Mordecai was a Jew. After all, Mordecai was the head rabbi; he frequently appeared at the king's gate and wore traditional Jewish attire.

King Ahasuerus had commanded all of his citizens to bow down to Haman. However, he knew that Mordecai was a distinguished rabbi, exempting him from the decree to bow down to Haman. Initially, Haman assumed that Mordecai did not bow down because the king had exempted him from the decree. Ultimately, he realized the true reason for Mordecai's behavior: he refused to bow down to Haman because he was a Jew. The Torah forbids Jews from bowing down to idols.

Despite the king’s decree that everyone must bow down to Haman, Mordecai had the spiritual strength to adhere to the Torah principle that it is forbidden to bow down to idols.

Today: Draw your inner strength from Mordecai’s refusal to bow down to Haman, as he stood up for the values of the Torah.
