SF - # The Plowing of Peace

NEW: See Bottom of Page: "Ask the Rabbi"

The Alshich and Metzudas Dovid both emphasize that thoughts are not merely private internal dialogues; they are the blueprints for reality. When one "devises" (חורשי), the root word relates to "plowing." Just as a farmer prepares the soil for a future harvest, our thoughts prepare the spiritual ground for either thorns or fruit.

The Mechanics of "Devising"

King Solomon warns that those who plot evil "go astray" (yis'u), implying a loss of direction. By focusing on the downfall of another, a person loses their own path, becoming entangled in the very trap they set. This "boomerang effect" is a spiritual law: the energy used to plow a pit for another eventually pulls the plotter into it.

Conversely, "devising good" creates a foundation of Kindness and Truth. This suggests that positive thoughts toward others don't just stay in the mind; they become "established." They draw down a Divine flow that benefits both the thinker and the subject, turning a mental wish into a tangible, "truthful" reality.

Application Exercise: "The Plowing of Peace"

Objective: To consciously redirect "plowing" energy from negative judgment to active blessing.

  • The Task: Identify one person in your life who currently frustrates you or whom you find yourself judging.

  • The Action: Three times today, when that person comes to mind, stop the "plowing" of negative thoughts. Instead, spend 30 seconds "devising good" for them. Specifically, visualize one specific success or joy they need (e.g., health, financial ease, or domestic peace) as if it were happening to you.

  • The Goal: To shift from "going astray" in resentment to establishing "Kindness and Truth" in your own mental landscape.
