🏛️ The Heavenly Palace of Kindness

“One of the thirteen attributes of supernal compassion is ‘HaShem Delights in Kindness’ (Chefez Chesed Hu). Through this attribute, His mercy overcomes judgment.” (Tomer Devorah)

🌌 The Heavenly Response to Compassion

  • The Spiritual Fortress: There exists a spiritual palace in Heaven, inhabited by countless angels. Every time a person performs an act of kindness, an angel collects that deed and securely stores it within this heavenly sanctuary.
  • The Shield Against Judgment: In times when harsh judgment is awakened against the world, these angels rush before HaShem, presenting the gathered treasury of Klal Yisrael's kindness.
  • The Ultimate Mitigation: Because HaShem fundamentally delights in kindness, He is deeply moved by this visual testimony. His boundless mercy immediately overrules and annuls the severe decree.

📜 A Historical Defense: The Hidden Sign

During the Churbon (the tragic destruction of the Holy Temple), a severe decree of absolute destruction was awakened against Klal Yisrael.

To save the nation, the ministering angels stood before the Heavenly Throne and displayed a striking image: the form of a human hand, symbolizing the active deeds of charity and compassion performed by the Jewish people.

Upon seeing this, HaShem immediately turned to Gavriel, the angel of strict justice, and commanded:

“They are performing acts of kindness for each other! Relax the judgment, and allow them to survive.”

Walking in His Ways: The Human Application

HaShem purposefully designed the universe so that His gaze rests primarily on the positive attributes and noble actions of humanity. We are called upon to emulate this exact Divine trait in our daily interactions:

  • Shift Your Focus: If someone offends you, hurts your feelings, or causes you grief, consciously refuse to let your mind dwell on the hurt.
  • Search for the Spark: Force a shift in perspective. Actively search for their redeeming qualities. Identify a time they helped someone else, recall a positive character trait they possess, or remember a specific good deed credited to their name.
  • Dissolve the Anger: Let the reality of "Delighting in Kindness" reshape your emotional landscape. By actively viewing your fellow man in a favorable light, you silence internal judgment and unlock genuine compassion.
