‌ A scorched, ravaged Beis Medrash, a shattered Kehillah. Huge flames burst out in the dead of night, enveloping the Beis Mussar of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter. Scraps of charred wood are all that remain of the beautiful furniture, and the vast majority of sifrei kodesh, the pride and joy of the Beis Medrash, were tearfully placed in genizah after their letters ascended to Shamayim. A sacred house of Torah, tefillah and mussar was devastated, leaving many bleeding hearts and a fervent yearning to rebuild. Rabbi Yisrael Salanter’s Mussar Movement continues flourishing and expanding today, inflaming hearts with passion and desire to serve Hashem with love. Twenty years ago, Harav Tzvi Miller shlit”a, founder and Nasi of the Salant Foundation, founded an organization to disseminate divrei mussar to thousands of Yidden worldwide. The inspirational, accessible content, which is presented in pleasant, easy-to-learn format, is disseminated by email every day to thousands of learners around the world. The relevant, compelling lessons arouse many hearts to serve Hashem with ahavah and yirah and to rectify our middos in the sacred tradition of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter. Over the years, Mosdos Salant has translated foundational sifrei mussar into several languages and disseminated them to Jewish communities around the world in order to ingrain mussar in the heart of every Jew. A decade after the founding of Mosdos Salant, Rav Miller opened Kollel Tiferes Yisrael which is called after the founder of the Mussar Movement Rabbi Yisrael Salanter zt”l. This exceptional Kollel integrates high-level learning of hora’ah and halachah with a special daily seder in mussar, with the goal of cultivating Rabbanim and talmidei chachamim whose knowledge and erudition is matched by outstanding character traits and integrity. As Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel grew and was settled by thousands of Torah families, Rav Miller opened the Beis Medrash and Beis Mussar of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter, which over time, developed into a large, close-knit kehillah of the finest lomdei Torah and yirei Shamayim. The Beis Medrash, which also became home to Kollel Tiferes Yisrael, hosts daily shiurim, chaburos and shmuessen, as well as occasional lectures from famous mashpi’im and baalei mussar who inspire local residents to enhance limud Torah, middos tovos and kedushah. Several weeks ago, in the middle of the night, a fire broke out on the main floor of the Beis Medrash. Within minutes, a wall of fire enveloped the Beis Medrash; the windows exploded and tongues of fire reached inside, causing terrible damage to the building. Our beloved Beis Medrash and Beis Mussar, along with hundreds of precious sifrei kodesh were consumed in flames, and our hearts are shattered. How can we stand idly by in the face of such catastrophe? We must reinstate the Kollel, shiurim and chaburos, along with the magnificent kol Torah that pulsates from this sacred place! SF - The Beauty of Humility

When the dedication of the Sanctuary took place, the prince of each tribe was asked to bring an offering. Yet, the tribe of Levi was not assigned to bring an offering. Aaron HaKohen, the prince of the Levites, felt discouraged, "All the princes brought an offering. I was the only prince who did not have a share in these offerings." HaShem responded to Aaron, "All the other tribes brought one single offering on the alter. You will light the Menorah every day in the inner chamber of the Sanctuary." Even more, HaShem proclaimed, "The lights of the Menorah that Aaron HaKohen kindles in the sanctuary are more precious to me than the sun and the moon that I placed in the heavens!" Why was Aaron's lighting of the Menorah so beloved to HaShem? Aaron was not disheartened because he felt insulted that he was excluded. Rather, Aaron's sadness stemmed from his humility; he thought he was not worthy to bring an offering in the dedication ceremony. This is an example of the verse, "HaShem hears the desire of the humble" (Tehillim 10). Meaning, HaShem looks into a person's heart to see whether his desire to serve HaShem stems from humility or from self-importance. There is nothing as precious to HaShem as when a person's motivation to serve HaShem springs from humility.    Envision Aaron HaKohen seeing all of the princes bring offerings, except for him. Sense the sadness in his heart of wanting to serve HaShem, but feeling he is unworthy to bring an offering. Hear HaShem console Aaron by assuring him that his lighting of the Menorah is more significant in HaShem's eyes, than the great lights of the sun and moon. Sense Aaron's joy in knowing how much HaShem desires his service. SF - HaShem Dwells In Our Midsts

Dedicated in appreciation for the generosity and friendship of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Friedland. May Hashem bless you with all of His sweetest Blessings! "And they shall make for Me a sanctuary and I will dwell in their midst" (Shemot 25:8). HaShem loves Klal Yisrael with unbounded love and wants the light of the Shechinah to dwell upon their souls. Yet, how could the human soul, even the holiest of souls, merit to be so closely connected to HaShem, the Holy One blessed be He? In light of this, HaShem gave us His holy Torah to serve as an intermediary between HaShem and our souls. HaShem attaches the holy Shechinah to the Torah. In turn, HaShem commands us to attach ourselves to Torah study and observance. By consciously attaching ourselves to the Torah, we connect ourselves to the Shechinah, which perpetually dwells within the Torah.  HaShem opens the gates of holiness for Klal Yisrael through our connection to Torah, as the verse says, "I will dwell in their midst."  Reflect on the wonder that the holy Shechinah is connected to every word and letter of the Torah. When you engage in Torah study or Mitzvah observance be aware that you are connecting your soul to the holy Shechinah. Sense the holiness of HaShem flow into your being through your attachment to Torah, elevating, purifying, and enlightening your soul (Based on the commentary of the Chofetz Chaim)     Donate ‌ May the souls who left this world be remembered for a blessing.
