SF - We Are Children to HaShem \ Parasht Re'eh

We Are Children to HaShem  \ Parasht Re'eh

D'var Torah: "You are children to HaShem your G-d" (Devarim 11:26). There was once a good king, who was wealthy and powerful. He did great things for his people. One day the king became aware of a group who were plotting a coup. The king's army went into action and put down the rebels. The next day the king took a stroll in the royal garden. He heard a songbird singing the sweetest and most beautiful melodies. The king asked his servants to take the bird to the palace so that the royal house would always enjoy the pleasant songs of the bird. One of the servants said, "O' this poor bird!" His friend asked, "Why is he a poor bird?" The servant responded, "There was talk of a coup yesterday. The king will be preoccupied and will not be able to feed the bird." He friend responded, "You are so foolish! Don't you know that the king has great power and endless wealth. The coup does not effect the king, whatsoever. The songbird is the "apple of his eye." Is there any question that the king will provide the bird with more than he could possibly ever need?"

Moral: Klal Yisrael are beloved to HaShem, "the apple of His eye!" HaShem has infinite power and resources. Even though there are some people who rebel against HaShem, they have no bearing on the boundless blessings, goodness, love and affection that HaShem consistently showers on His beloved People of Israel.

Application: Envision the king lovingly providing abundant provisions to his cherished songbird. The handful of seeds that the king grants his pet, are like a drop of the ocean, compared to the kings overall vast holdings. So too, HaShem loves Klal Yisrael like His very children. He loves us regardless of whether or not the others rebel against Him. With His constant boundless love and unlimited resources, He happily provides all of our needs.
