SF - Miracles and The Secret of Optimism \ Parashat Vayira

Miracles and The Secret of Optimism \ Parashat Vayira

D'var Torah: This week's Torah reading begins with three guests arriving at Avraham's tent. As Sara, who is ninety years olds, prepares the meal for the guests, her youthfulness miraculously returns. During the course of the meal one of the guests tells Avraham that Sara will give birth to a son in the coming year. Avraham rejoices to hear such amazing news. Whereas, Sara doubts that she and Avraham will have a son in their elderly years. Yet, Sara had just experienced a miracle in which her youthfulness was restored. If so, why did she doubt that HaShem would perform additional miracles on her behalf? Apparently, Sara did not fully recognize that the miraculous restoration of her youth signified that she would be able to give birth in her elderly. Therefore, since she didn't recognize the significance of the first miracle, she couldn't conceive that HaShem would miraculously grant her a son.

Moral: HaShem performs great miracles for each one of us every second of our existence. For example, the miracles of our very lives, our intelligence, our children, our health, the sunlight, etc. The more we perceive the miracles of HaShem that consistently surround us, the more confidence we will have that HaShem will perform great miracles for us in the future.

Application: 1. Count the blessings and miracles that HaShem does for you.
                      2. Write them down in a special journal.
                      3. Review them once a day.
                      4. Be inspired by these miracles and realize how HaShem cares and                            loves you.
                      5. Be optimistic and faithful that HaShem will perform                                                 more miracles for you in the future.
