Embrace Your Failures \ King David

בת שבע ותלד בן ויקרא את שמו שלמה וה׳ אהבו

״Bat Sheva gave birth to a son and called his name Solomon and HaShem loved him״ (Shmuel 2.12.24).

We are all familiar with the incident in which King David consorted with Bat Sheva. Afterwards, King David married Bat Sheva in accordance with Torah law and she conceived a child.

Nathan HaNavi came to King David and told him that he and Bat Sheva would have a son who would be beloved to HaShem and who would become the future king of Israel.

What was the special quality that made Solomon so beloved to HaShem, and why did HaShem choose him to be the next king?

The news of the “scandal” of King David and Bat Sheva spread throughout the kingdom. Everyone looked to the newly married couple with great suspicion. Could anything worthwhile emerge from the marriage of such impropriety?

The public skepticism tainted Solomon’s reputation and everyone assumed he would never be counted amongst King David’s most prestigious offspring.

The very failure that haunted Solomon from his inception, precipitated great humility in his personality. His lowliness of spirit was the proper character trait needed to be king of Israel. It was his great humility that made him so beloved to HaShem.

The seeds of success emerge from the humbling agony of our catastrophes. Instead of trying to detach from our failures, we should embrace them. HaShem loves the humble and He will lead us to favorable outcomes, competence, and triumph.
