"A happy heart is a good remedy" (Mishlei 17:22) A joyful heart is one of the most powerful forces for healing—both physically and spiritually.
In this light, there is no greater joy for parents than seeing their children grow into good and upright individuals. Raising children with proper education and refined character is not only a fulfillment of parental duty—it is a deep emotional balm. The happiness that parents feel when witnessing the moral and spiritual development of their children brings healing to both body and soul.
Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibowitz, a revered Rosh Yeshiva before World War II, once had a top student who came from a very poor family. The boy’s father owned a modest grocery store that barely turned a profit. Yet whenever Rabbi Leibowitz passed by the store, he would smile and say, “Here is the real millionaire!”
He understood that, despite the material lack, the father felt immense inner wealth. No physical luxury compares to the joy of having a son who is a Torah scholar. The father’s pride and spiritual satisfaction made him truly rich. Each of us is a child of Hashem. He loves us dearly and rejoices in our goodness and sincere deeds. When we strive to bring Him pleasure, we bring joy to the Creator Himself. Let us reflect on the verse: "A happy heart is a good remedy." Reflect on the endless kindness, love, and compassion Hashem bestows upon you. Try to increase your awareness of His goodness a little more each day.
Today: Let that recognition awaken gratitude and happiness within you—and in doing so, you will unlock the finest and most enduring remedy. (Based on the commentary of Rabbeinu Yonah to Mishlei)
