SF - # The Power of "Right Now"

In honor of Mr. and Ms. Aron Gittleson:
With heartfelt gratitude, we wish you and your family bracha, hatzlacha, and abundant nachas!

"For now, I could have sent My hand and stricken you and your people with a plague, and you would have been obliterated from the earth." (Shemot 9:15)

In this verse, HaShem delivers a staggering warning to Pharaoh. The phrase "For now" (Ki Atah) reveals a fundamental principle of Divine power: HaShem does not require time or a process to achieve His goals. He possesses the absolute capacity to annihilate the entire Egyptian empire in a single heartbeat.

We often find ourselves looking back at two millennia of a grueling and bitter exile, wondering: How can a redemption that has been delayed for so long happen suddenly? The Chofetz Chaim explains that this verse serves as the definitive answer to our fatigue. HaShem’s restraint is not a lack of power, but a manifestation of His will. Because He is the Master of the Universe with supreme dominion, He is not bound by the "slow" pace of history. In a mere split second, HaShem can pivot the world from darkness to the light of the Final Redemption, neutralizing every enemy of Israel instantly.

The Moral: Faith Beyond Time

The length of our exile is never a reason to harbor doubt. Our faith is not based on "geopolitical trends" or "historical probability," but on the omnipotence of the Creator. Be encouraged by the realization that the same Hand that could have obliterated Egypt "right now" is the same Hand that will bring our salvation in the blink of an eye.

Today's Takeaway: "Expect the Sudden"

  1. Internalize the Verse: Re-read Shemot 9:15 and focus specifically on the words "For now." 2. Shift Perspective: When you hear news of the troubles facing Israel or your own personal struggles, remind yourself that these situations do not require a "long time" to fix.
  2. Anticipate: Cultivate the mindset of "constant expectation." Just as HaShem told Pharaoh He could have acted in an instant, live with the awareness that the Geulah Sheleimah (Final Redemption) is only one Divine "second" away.
