The Secret of the Holy Vessels The holy vessels of the Mishkan reveal the secrets of success. For example, two Cheruvim (angel-like golden figures) were affixed to the Ark of the Covenant. They faced each other and their heads looked downwards towards the cover of the Ark. However, in the event that Klal Yisrael fell short in caring for each other, the Cheruvim miraculously turned around and faced away from each other. In contrast, the Cheruvim facing each other, symbolized Klal Yisrael's care and concern for each person's well-being. Lesson: Just as the Cheruvim looking downwards towards the Torah, so too, our interpersonal relationships should be conducted with humility and guided by by the holy Torah. The primary criteria of finding favor in the eyes of HaShem is relinquishing self-interest, and focusing on loving our family members and friends. Visualization: Envision the Cheruvim facing each other in the Holy of Holies. Take a few minutes to reflect on your friends and pay attention to their needs and concerns. Fill your heart with love, kindness, and care for your fellow man -- and you will be pleasing in the eyes man and HaShem. (Based on Matok HaOhr) *New printing of the Salant Foundation's "Ohr Yisrael"
