Dedicated to Iliu Nishams Raizel bas Pesach
The Secret of Friendship "Rabbi Eliezer says: 'Let the honor of your friend be as dear to you as your own.'" (Avos 2:10)
The ideal to qualitatively honor one's friend rests on the two pillars of respect and patience. In fact, a generous and unending supply of patience is indispensable to sufficiently honor your friend. If one lacks patience and is short-tempered with his friend, there is no question that his friend will feel slighted. In fact, there is nothing that damages relationships as much as anger. Whereas, constant respect and honor even at times when you don't see eye to eye, insures a lasting and enduring friendship. Lesson: Constant patience enhances honor, and effectively preserves and strengthens good relationships.
Visualization: Envision Avraham Avinu and Sara Emanu honoring their guests and treating them like kings. See how their graciousness, kindness, and respect fills the hearts of their guests with joy. Emulate Avraham's and Sara's winning combination of respect and patience -- and enjoy the wonderful benefits of enduring friendships.
