How to Go From Rags to Riches \ Parashat Pinchas
D'var Torah: Throughout history, the Jewish People, collectively and individually, have risen from the ashes to the heights. What is the secret of our phenomenal ability to survive and thrive? In this weeks' Torah reading, HaShem instructs Moshe to take a census. The tribe of Binyamin was numbered at 45,600 souls, while the tribe of Dan had 64,000 souls. Yet Binyamin had ten sons, whereas Dan had one son, Chushi, who was hearing impaired. Nevertheless, HaShem blessed Dan that his offspring should be fruitful. When HaShem favors a person, someone who has less than others ultimately emerges with superior increase. The same is true regarding one's financial standing: HaShem can bless a poor person to rise from rags to riches. Moral: No matter how dismal a person's situation appears to be, there is nothing that can deter HaShem from bestowing on him boundless blessings of success. Application: Envision Yaacov Avinu arriving with nothing more than the clothes on his back when he comes to Lavan. Reflect on how Lavan did every unscrupulous act to deny Yaacov amassing wealth. Remember in the end of the matter, HaShem blessed Yaacov, who attained tremendous wealth and prosperity. Envision the abundant blessings of HaShem flowing into every aspect of your life and filling you with joy! (Based on the commentary of the Choftez Chaim to the Torah) |
