The Solitary Request of King David
King David said, "One thing I asked from HaShem" and then he said, "One thing I will request from HaShem." He started speaking in the past tense and then switched to the future tense. Most people change their goals as they grow older. A child wants candy. When he gets a little older he wants a toy. When he becomes an adult he wants a wife, and so on and so forth. However, King David had one solitary request throughout his entire life: "To dwell in the house of HaShem, all of the days of my life."
Lesson: A spiritually oriented person is singularly focused on the true, eternal value of coming close to HaShem.
Application: Make HaShem the center of your life and come close to His blessing, joy, truth, and holiness.
