The Gift of our Daily Bread
"The praise of HaShem will fill my mouth and all mankind will bless His Holy name forever more." Through the spirit of prophecy King David recognized that his sustenance comes directly from the unabated kindness of HaShem, just as surely as a mother lovingly nurses her baby. In light of this, King David praised HaShem each and every day for his provisions, which he considered as miraculous as the Manna from Heaven. Lesson: King David appreciated the great miracle of receiving our "daily bread". It is appropriate for man to pray, thank, and bless HaShem for His unending, life-giving kindness of providing our livelihood. App: Before you eat, take a second and reflect. See your food as a gift from HaShem that He created especially for you. Feel the joy of gratitude for HaShem's kindness in giving you your daily bread. Make a blessing over your food with joyful thanksgiving to HaShem. (Based on the commentary of RaMad Valli to Tehillim 145)
