How to Elevate Relationships
Due to a famine in Eretz Yisrael, Avraham and Sara journeyed to Egypt. When they neared a river, Avraham saw the beauty of Sara's reflection shining like the sun. He said to her, "Now I know that you are beautiful." He feared for her safety because the Egyptians were very immoral people. Yet, how is it possible that they were married for so many years and he didn't notice her striking beauty? Avraham and Sara were holy and pure, like living angels. Avraham appreciated her beauty but he focused on her radiant spiritual beauty, always perceiving her inner splendor.
Lesson: The more a person sanctifies his thoughts and actions, the more he elevates himself as well as his family friends.
Visualization: Envision Avraham and Sara engaged in a conversation. Take note of the holiness, decency, and respect that they share. See how the love between them stems from the mutual awareness of their spiritual beauty -- the goodness of their souls. (Based on the commentary of Rashi to the Torah)
