The Best of Days
Inspiration: The fasting, prayers, and ceremonies of Yom Kippur purifies the entire Jewish nation from every sin. The "spiritual prosecutor" cannot find any accusations against Klal Yisrael. He says to HaShem, "Master of the universe, You have one nation upon the earth who is like the angels in Heaven. Just as the angels go barefoot, so too, Klal Yisrael go barefoot on Yom Kippur. Just as angels do not partake of food or drink, so too, Klal Yisrael abstain from food and drink on Yom Kippur. Just as the angels stand in place, so too, Klal Yisrael stands on their feet on Yom Kippur. Just as there is peace amongst the angels, so too, there is peace amongst Klal Yisrael. Just as the angels are devoid of sin, so too, Klal Yisrael are without sin on Yom Kippur." HaShem listens to the favorable testimony of the "prosecutor" and He grants atonement for the entire community of Israel.
Lesson: There is no greater happiness than knowing that HaShem revealed to us the secrets of gaining His forgiveness, purification, and renewal.
App: Strengthen your faith and trust in Hashem. Be reassured that on Yom Kippur HaShem gives you the opportunity to rectify all your mistakes and flaws of the year. Be confidant that through your Yom Kippur observance HaShem will grant you forgiveness and inscribe You in the Book of Life. (Based on the commentary of Rabenu Bachaya)
