A Joyful State of Mind
Inspiration: The most conducive way to pray is to attain a joyful state of mind before offering our prayer to HaShem. Specifically, we are referring to the uplifting joy of reflecting on the great goodness of HaShem. The clearest revelation of HaShem's goodness is found in the great kindness He has done and continues to do for Klal Yisrael. Therefore, we mention the miraculous Exodus from Egypt before beginning our morning and evening "prayer of silent devotion." In the same light, before we begin the afternoon "prayer of silent devotion" we say Psalm 145, which is replete with verses that express HaShem's love and care for us. For example, "HaShem is good to all," and "HaShem protects all those who love Him."
Lesson: A joyful consciousness is the catalyst that breathes life, faith, and optimism into our prayers. It make our prayers pleasing, positive, optimistic, and acceptable to HaShem.
App: Envision the wonders that HaShem performed in Egypt. See HaShem send the ten miraculous plagues to force the Egyptians to free Klal Yisrael. Reflect on the awe, light, and holiness of HaShem that was clearly revealed and experienced. Sense the incomparable goodness of HaShem, and pray with trust, confidence, and joy.
