Strengthen Your Friend "If your brother becomes destitute and his means falter in your proximity, you shall strengthen him" (Vayikra 25:35).
When we become aware that one of our acquaintances is slipping down financially, spiritually, or emotionally we need to promptly provide him with support, assistance, and encouragement. It is imperative that we step in when he is faltering, but still standing. We shouldn't wait until he falls, for then it will be much harder for him to get back on his feet.
Lesson: There is no greater Mitzvah than being sensitive to a friend who is close to the edge. Strengthen him so that he can persevere, keep his personal pride, and flourish.
Visualization: Envision an impoverished man asking Avraham Avinu for assistance. See how Avraham strengthens him with warmth, kindness. and encouragement. Imagine the joy that fills the man's heart, when Avraham saves him from disaster, and gives him the opportunity to succeed. Reach out to strengthen your friends and earn endless blessings and merits, now and forever more. (Based on the commentary of Rashi) Click Here to view the Salant Mussar Library Collection
