The Wonder of Our Intellect \ Duties of the Heart
D'var Torah: Let us consider the amazing goodness that HaShem grants us by instilling the gift of intelligence within us. The power of our intelligent mind is what differentiates us from the animals of the field. The invaluable benefit of our intelligence is clearly demonstrated both in our material and spiritual activities. On the material level, the intellect guides to efficiently take care of our bodily needs. Meaning, we see to it that our body receives the proper measure of sleep, nutrition, exercise, etc. Additionally, the intellect is apparent in the way that we organize our daily affairs. On the spiritual plane, our intellect gives us the opportunity to acquire a great number of good character traits. For instance, through the faculty of our intellect we recognize that we have a wise and eternal Creator. He is One, He preceded the creation of the universe, He is the Almighty. He is beyond time and space, He is more elevated than His creations. He is merciful, gracious, and kind. Nothing can compare to HaShem's greatness.
Moral: The advantages and benefits of our intellect are invaluable because they provide man with common sense, clarity, and wisdom, in his material and spiritual pursuits. Application: Reflect on the wonders and advantages of the intellect that HaShem grants to you. Sense the joy of knowing that the gift of your intellect reveals how much HaShem loves you. Use your intelligence to organize your secular matters and elevate your soul through your spiritual strivings. Thank HaShem for the precious and priceless gift of your holy intellect.
