"When you purchase a Hebrew servant, he shall work for six years, and in the seventh year, he shall be freed..." (Shemot 21:1). This verse reveals that the essence of Divine Service is אמת (truth). Even someone who has reached a higher spiritual level must define themselves according to the appropriate level of their elevated status. They should not view themselves as having attained the highest level of spirituality. The reason is that a person who is not bothered by earthly desires has not truly ascended to the highest spiritual level. Rather, the individual who genuinely desires to come closer to the Creator has reached the highest spiritual level—the level of אמת. Interestingly, the numerical value of עבד עברי (Hebrew servant) is the same as that of נחש (the primordial snake) that tempted Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. Therefore, the sixth year symbolizes the concept of אמת, as taught in the Zohar. The seventh year represents the seventh attribute of Divine compassion—also referred to as אמת. Thus, one who serves Hashem with an accurate understanding of their spiritual level is able to rectify the sin of Adam and Eve. Furthermore, this person can rectify everything!
