SF - A Wise Person Takes Mitzvot

"Moshe took Yoseph's bones with him..." (Shemos 13:19)

As Klal Yisrael prepared to leave Egypt after enduring long and harsh bondage, Hashem commanded them to request gold and silver from the Egyptians. Hashem placed favor in the hearts of the Egyptians, and they willingly gave Klal Yisrael whatever they asked for.

However, Moshe Rabbeinu prioritized something far more significant: he took "the bones of Yoseph," as the verse states. "A wise-hearted person knows the importance of performing Mitzvot (commandments)" (Mishlei 10:8). Instead of focusing on accumulating gold and silver, Moshe's wisdom guided him to fulfill an extraordinary act of kindness. He remembered Yoseph's oath to his descendants, saying that when Hashem redeemed them from Egypt, his brethren must take his bones to Eretz Yisrael.

We learn a powerful lesson from Moshe's selfless conduct. While his brethren were collecting wealth, Moshe had a different perspective. He was willing to forfeit great riches to uphold Yoseph's oath. Moshe's selfless act ultimately brought him immeasurable merit in this world and the World to Come, as the verse indicates, "A wise-hearted person will take Mitzvot."
