"Pharaoh called to Moshe and said, 'Go and serve Hashem, just leave your herds in Egypt'” (Shemos 10:24).
Moshe rejected Pharaoh's permission to take the entire Jewish people, except for the herds, which should remain in Egypt. Why was Moshe concerned about leaving the herds in Egypt, which would necessitate the final plague—the miraculous slaying of the firstborn?
Rav Shlomo Kluger, o.b.m., answers this question beautifully with a hypothetical situation. Let's assume there is a person who needs a miracle but feels unworthy of receiving one from Hashem. We could ask him, "Are you less worthy than the herds, which lack intelligence?
They have no preference about whether they remain in Egypt or not. Nevertheless, Hashem performed a miracle for them by slaying the firstborn Egyptians. Indeed, you are more worthy than the herds! Therefore, Hashem will perform a miracle for you."
Today: Remove all doubts concerning your worthiness by realizing Hashem performed a miracle for the herds. Indeed, He will perform a miracle for you as well.
Note: This week, we learned that Klal Yisrael suffered under Egyptian bondage as a result of speaking Lashon Hara. In today’s world, we are constantly exposed to social media and news broadcasts, where Lashon Hara is widespread. We would love to hear from our subscribers: What practical steps can we take to address and rectify this issue in our own lives and communities? Thank you for your valuable insights and support!
"The only solution is to do what Rabbi Miller recommends... cut loose! drop out of all groups that do not disallow loshon hora."
