SF - Harvest of Respect

The Torah commands the farmer to leave the corner of his field unharvested for the poor. Rather than handing the produce directly to those in need, the farmer steps back and allows the poor to enter his land and gather the crops themselves. In doing so, the poor person—who has no land of his own—is given the opportunity to experience the dignity and fulfillment of harvesting, as if the field were his own.

With profound compassion and sensitivity, HaShem provides a means for the poor to retain their dignity and self-worth, enabling them to feel like active participants rather than passive recipients.

Strive to be mindful of others’ dignity. Look for ways not only to help, but to empower—offering support that uplifts and restores a person’s sense of honor and self-respect.

(Based on Darchei Mussar of Rabbi Yaacov Neiman)
