The journey is beautiful

"Rabbi Ḥanina, the deputy High Priest, said: 'Pray for the welfare of the government.'" (Pirkei Avos 3:2) A profound expression of care and responsibility is to pray not only for the peace of one’s own country, but for the peace of the entire world. True empathy means feeling the pain of others, even those far removed from us. King David exemplified this ideal when he said, “When they were ill, my clothing was sackcloth; I afflicted myself with fasting” (Tehillim 35:13). If he grieved for his enemies in their time of suffering, how much more did he pray with love and concern for his family, his friends, all of Klal Yisrael, and the nations of the world. The righteous do not limit their prayers to their own needs. They expand their hearts to include their families, their communities, all of Israel, and the entire human family. Today: Close your eyes and imagine a world where all people live together in peace and mutual respect. Let that vision inspire you to pray sincerely for the welfare of all humanity—and take joy in knowing that your prayer contributes to a more compassionate and united world.
