When someone parts with something of sentimental value, it’s usually a bittersweet moment. They may sell it, but their heart remains attached. In contrast, when HaShem gave Klal Yisrael the Torah—His most treasured possession—He did so with joy, not sadness.
How do we know this? When a seller tells the buyer, "Please don’t give this away to anyone else," it reveals that the seller deeply wants the item to remain with that person. Similarly, the verse says: “I have given you a goodly possession; do not forsake My Torah.” (Mishlei 4:2) HaShem pleads with us not to abandon the Torah, showing not only His deep love for us, but His joy in giving it to us. He didn’t give it reluctantly; He gave it with gladness and with the heartfelt hope that we would cherish it forever.
We are incredibly fortunate. Out of His boundless love, HaShem gave us the Torah with joy. Knowing this, we are moved to embrace the Torah with all our hearts—to study it, live by it, and treasure it as He intended.
Today: Close your eyes and envision yourself standing at Mount Sinai. Hear HaShem say to you, “I have given you a precious gift—My Torah. Please, do not leave it.” Feel the joy radiating from HaShem as He entrusts you with His most beloved possession. Let this vision deepen your appreciation, your respect, and your connection to the Torah. Strengthen your commitment to learn it, to live it, and to love it.
