| "The fragrance of my son is like the fragrance of the field which HaShem has blessed."
The pleasant fragrance of the field clung to Yaacov’s garments when he entered Yitzchak’s tent to receive his blessings. Yitzchak said to him, “See, my son, not only does HaShem provide vegetation to nourish His creatures, but He also grants the herbs a sweet scent to bring delight to our souls.”
Why did Yitzchak point out this wonder of HaShem at the moment he was about to bless his son? Before giving his blessing, Yitzchak consciously elevated his spirit by reflecting on the limitless goodness of HaShem. The joy that filled his heart intensified the depth and power of the blessings he bestowed upon Yaacov, his beloved son.
The wondrous goodness of HaShem surrounds us constantly and can be found even in the simplest pleasures of life. The sweet fragrance of a field has the power to awaken our souls and offer us a small taste of Gan Eden. Envision Yitzchak—our holy forefather—one hundred and twenty-three years old and blind, waiting to bless his son before his death. As Yaacov approaches, Yitzchak senses the sweet, blessed fragrance that accompanies him. Yitzchak’s heart fills with joy, and he blesses his son with profound delight in HaShem.
Today: Follow the path of Yitzchak: continually take joy in the wondrous kindness of HaShem that always surrounds you. (Based on the commentary of the Seforno)
