| An observant Jewish man who had fallen on hard times traveled to a distant land in search of livelihood. Upon arriving in this far-off place, he saw that its inhabitants were pagans. He encountered one of the locals and rebuked him, saying, “You are foolish for worshipping the stars!” The pagan replied, “And what do you worship?”
The man answered, “I serve the Almighty—Creator of heaven and earth, Master of the universe, Who sustains all of His creation.” The pagan responded, “Your actions contradict your words. If what you say is true, then your G-d would provide for you in your own city just as He provides for you here.”
The Jewish man acknowledged the simple and compelling logic of the pagan. Being a person of deep faith, he returned to his hometown, lived modestly, and no longer left his city in search of sustenance.
HaShem is the all-powerful Creator Who loves, protects, and supports all of His creations. We are called to bring our actions and thoughts into alignment with our trust in Him. Reason itself dictates that the more we rely on HaShem, the less we become dependent on our own efforts and pursuits. And the greater our trust in HaShem, the more inner peace and happiness we will attain.
Today: - Strengthen your trust in HaShem.
- Pay attention to your actions and thoughts.
- Consider whether they are consistent with genuine trust in HaShem.
- Bring your deeds and thoughts into harmony with firm faith in HaShem, the Source of all good.
