A New Approach to Deal With Difficult People
Our Sages of blessed memory offer us guidance on how to relate to difficult people. For instance, imagine that you see person, who is usually a decent human being, acting inappropriately. Most of us would carry some "judgment" of that person in our hearts. The Torah (Shemos 23:8) advises us to "let it go." Meaning do your best to soften your hearts towards this person. Even more, it is a Mitzvah to show friendship and love to this person. And to help him when he is in a difficult situation.
Lesson: Compassion and kindness is the best way to influence others to improve and uplift themselves.
Visualization: Envision Avraham inviting guests of all sorts, even idol worshipers, to enjoy a delicious meal in his tent. See the love, kindness, warmth, and honor that he showers upon them. See the hardness in their hearts melt and fill with joy and compassion. Emulate Avraham's love and inspire others to fill their hearts and deeds with goodness.
