The Inner Secret of Chanukah
Two miracles took place at Chanukah: a small group of Torah scholars defeated the mighty Greek army, and one cruse of oil burned for eight days. Yet, why is it that the primary celebration of Chanukah centers on the miracle of the lights, and less on the military victory? The essence of serving HaShem is man's recognition of Divine providence in our lives. Through the miracle of the oil lasting for eight days, we recognized that our Mitzvos are precious to HaShem. We were greatly encouraged by knowing that just as we cherish the Mitzvos, so too, our Mitzvos are precious to HaShem.
Lesson: There is no greater joy than knowing that HaShem delights in the Mitzvos of Klal Yisrael. App: When you light your Menorah, reflect on the Holy Shechinah that comes close to you and surrounds you. Rejoice in knowing that your Mitzvos are infinitely precious, beautiful, and beloved to HaShem! (Based on the writings of the Saba Kadisha of Kelm)
