Unceasing Unconditional Love
Yoseph had prophetic dreams in which he saw he would become a king. However, when he was sold as a slave and then imprisoned in Egypt, he assumed that he was unworthy of the prophecy to be fulfilled. In light of his presumption, he relied on a servant of Pharaoh to intervene on his behalf. He received an additional two years in jail for his lack of trust in HaShem. Why was he penalized for his humility in deeming himself unworthy in light of all his troubles? One of the principles of trust in HaShem is the knowledge that HaShem loves us unconditionally. Regardless of his spiritual status, it was mandatory for Yoseph to trust in HaShem's infinite compassion to rescue him from his plight and fulfill his dream.
Lesson: As long as a person commits himself to being a good person, he can rely on -- and must trust in -- HaShem's unconditional love and mercy. App: Never despair of HaShem's redemption, regardless of your past misdeeds. Place your heartfelt trust in HaShem's mercy and He will surely save you from your troubles.
