The Importance of Kindness
Last week's Torah reading centered on the "Sinai Experience." That is, HaShem giving the Torah to Klal Yisrael, the most awesome event in the history of the world. We would expect following HaShem's giving the Torah at Sinai, the Torah would give priority to the laws pertaining to man and HaShem. Yet this week's Torah reading makes little mention of the laws pertaining to man and HaShem. Instead, this week's reading centers exclusively on the laws pertaining to man and his fellow. The Torah's powerful message is that the laws pertaining to our fellow man, are just as important as the laws between man and HaShem.
Lesson: HaShem's love for mankind and His love of justice permeate the essence of the Torah. Even though HaShem is the King of the universe, He lays down the laws governing interpersonal relationships before expounding on the laws relevant to Divine worship.
App: Give priority in your Torah observance to act with integrity in all of your dealings with your fellow man. Treat all people with respect, kindness, love, and sensitivity.
