Remembering Miriam the Prophetess "Remember how HaShem, your G-d, afflicted Miriam, on the way, when you left Egypt" (Devarim 24:9).
Miriam, the Prophetess, was one of the holiest people that ever lived. In her youth, she risked her life to save Moshe by placing him in the Nile. In addition, the miraculous well of water that supplied Klal Yisrael in the desert was on her merit. After the splitting of the Red Sea, she lead the women to sing praises to HaShem Despite her incomparable merits, Miriam was smitten with a spiritual skin ailment for speaking unfavorably about Moshe. She did not intend to say anything derogatory about Moshe, but she was held responsible only because she compared Moshe to other Prophets. App: Whenever you are tempted to speak unfavorably about another person, "remember how HaShem afflicted Miriam." Control your speech and receive HaShem's greatest blessings.
