The Tranquility of Trust \ Duties of the Heart -- The Gate of Trust D'var Torah: "Trust in HaShem is of great benefit both in religious and secular activities. Among its most precious benefits is the tranquility of the soul that a person experiences from his reliance on HaShem, just as a servant relies on his master for all of his needs" (Duties of the Heart, The Gate of Trust). A servant knows that his master will provide for him so that the servant will be able to discharge his duties. While most people concern themselves with monetary responsibilities, the servant enjoys peace of mind. He rests easy at night knowing that as long as he serves his master well, all of his needs will be taken care of.
Moral: HaShem takes care of the needs of His people, who uphold the Torah and its Mitzvot. Although we can always improve the quality of our devotion to HaShem, as long as we serve him to the best of our ability, we can rely on HaShem to provide for us.
Application: Reflect on the truth of this comparison between the tranquility of a servant who serves his master, and the tranquility of a person who serves HaShem. Consider that HaShem in unlimited in His power to provide for His servants, and His tender mercies are unceasingly upon all of His creations. (Based on Duties of the Heart, The Gate of Trust) |
