Experience the Delight of Your Soul \ Parashat Toldot
D'var Torah: "The fragrance of my son is like the fragrance of the field which HaShem had blessed."The pleasant fragrance of the field was upon Yaacov's clothing when he came into Yitzchak's tent to receive his blessings. Yitzchak said, "See my son, not only does HaShem provide vegetation to nourish His creatures, He also gives the herbs a sweet scent in order to give delight to our souls." Why did Yitzchak point out this wonder of HaShem at the time of blessing his son? Before blessing his son, Yitzchak consciously uplifted his soul by recognizing the unbounded goodness of HaShem. The joy that Yitzchak experienced intensified the power of his blessings that flowed from his heart when he blessed Yaacov, his beloved son.
Moral: The wondrous goodness of HaShem surrounds us and is found in the simplest pleasures of life. The sweet fragrance of the field has the power to awaken our souls and give us a taste of Gan Eden. Application: Envision Yitzchak, our holy ancestor, one hundred and twenty-three years old and blind, waiting to bless his son before he dies. As Yaacov comes close to his father, Yitzchak notices the sweet fragrance of the field that accompanies his son. Yitzchak's heart fills with joy, and he blesses his son with great delight in HaShem. Follow the way of Yitzchak, and constantly delight in the wondrous kindness of HaShem, that continuously surrounds you. (Based on the commentary of the Seforno) We're on a search!
