SF - The Secret Healing Power of Hardship \ Parashat Yayeishev

The Secret Healing Power of Hardship  \ Parashat Yayeishev

D'var Torah: "And they said to Yoseph, 'We dreamt a dream but there is no interpreter for it.' So Yoseph said to them, 'Do not interpretations belong to HaShem? Tell me your dream if you please.'" HaShem's method of healing is different than the ways of man. For instance, a doctor performs surgery with a scalpel and heals with a bandage. Whereas, HaShem heals with the very means that he wounds. For instance, Yoseph suffered consequences through boasting over his dreams to his brothers, and afterwards HaShem saved him through the dreams of the royal cupbearer and baker. This in accordance with the verse, "And it will be a time of trouble for Yaacov, and from the trouble will sprout his deliverance" (Jeremiah 30:7). Amazingly, the healing power of HaShem is embedded in the very troubles that He sends us.

Moral: The knowledge that our troubles contain the perfect medicine to heal our souls is the secret to peace of mind. In addition, this insight helps us cope with our difficulties because even though they are bitter, we are aware that they deliver to us the healing power of HaShem.

Application: Envision Yoseph telling his brothers that he dreamt that they will bow down to him. After relating his dreams, many terrible hardships fall on Yoseph. Even though his brothers sold him into slavery, Yoseph maintains his trust in HaShem. Yoseph is able to accept his hardships because he knows that HaShem's healing power is embedded in these difficulties. Strengthen your trust that all of the hardships that HaShem sends you contain the perfect medicine to heal your soul.
