The Conquering of Jericho \ Covid19
When Yehoshuah bin Nun approached Jericho, he composed the prayer of “Aleinu L’Shebeach.” He said it from beginning to the end and from the end to the beginning. Afterwards, the walls of Jericho tumbled into the earth, and Yehoshuah and his army invaded the city and conquered Jericho.
Yet the content of the “Aleinu L”Shebeach” prayer focuses on beseeching HaShem to open the hearts of the idol worshippers to recognize HaShem. If so, why didn’t the prayer open the hearts of the people of Jericho to recognise HaShem and His beloved Klal Yisrael?
In order to break the stubborn spirits of the inhabitants of Jericho, HaShem first had to break the material walls of their city. The impact of this shock penetrated into their psyche.
This is similar to the Ten Plagues that HaShem delivered to Pharaoh and the Egyptians. Their hearts were so hard that HaShem first had to break them physically before overcoming them spiritually. There is also an interplay between free choice and the revelation of HaShem configured into the equation. Meaning, the revelation of HaShem cannot interrupt man's free choice.
The process of the idol worshippers recognizing HaShem takes place over thousands of years. It began with the "Aleynu L’Shebeach Prayer" and will end with the coming of the Meshiach, may he come soon in our days. Then all of mankind will recognize that HaShem is the King of the Universe and Klal Yisrael is His chosen Nation, to whom He gave His precious Torah of Truth.
Also in our times, through the outbreak of the Corona virus, HaShem has shown us that He is the supreme Master of the universe. If we will awaken our hearts to perform Teshuvah, HaShem will bring our final redemption and rebuild the Beit HaMikdash, quickly in our days.
