The Power of Prayer \ Trust and Tranquility
"The Academy of Rabbi Yishmael taught: Had Israel not been privileged to the greet the countenance of their Father in Heaven except for once a month -- it would have sufficed for them."
The Acadamy of Rabbi Yishmael is referring to the precept of "Kiddush Lavanah." Each Rosh Chodesh, when the new moon appears, we say a special prayer in which we ask HaShem to transform the magnitude of the moon to be like the illumination of the sun.
Once the Caesar observed a group of Jews reciting Kiddush Lavanah. He asked them what they are doing. They responded, "We are asking HaShem to increase the luminance of the moon to be as bright as the sun." He returned to his palace and proclaimed, "The Jews have nothing to worry about except to ask HaShem to make the light of the moon equal to the light of the sun." Ceasar missed the point!
Klal Yisrael understands the power of prayer. We know that when we stand in the presence of HaShem and pray to Him, there are no limits to what we can beseech. We can petition HaShem to change nature! Through the power of prayer, we ask HaShem to increase the radiance of the moon to be as bright as the sun. There is no doubt that ultimately HaShem will answer our prayer and make the luminescence of the moon to be as brilliant as the intensely powerful light of the sun.
The power of prayer gives us the confidence to pray to HaShem to overcome nature, to convert darkness into light. With this understanding, we have the trust in HaShem to pray that He terminates the Covid18. May HaShem bring healing to the world and illuminate the world with the light the of Messianic Age.
