Perfect Harmony \ Ahavat Yisrael

Dedicated in Loving Memory of Daniel ben Arie Yacov HaLevy

“When Rabbi Eliezer took ill his students went to visit him. They asked him, Our Rabbi, teach us the paths of life through which we will merit a share in the World to Come. He responded, “Be very careful with the honor of your friends” (Brachot 28b).

The students knew that Torah study and observance grants a person a share in the World to Come. Their question was, “What quality of Torah is required to receive HaShem’s gift of eternal life?”

When we received the Torah at Mount Sinai, Klal Yisrael reached the perfect harmony of “one man, with one heart.”

Rabbi Eliezer awakened the hearts of his disciples to know that it is impossible to merit the Torah unless we have the same level of unity with our friends that we attained at Mount Sinai.

The only path to attain sincere unity is to be careful to honor and respect your fellowman.

Klal Yisrael is beloved to HaShem as the Prophet Jeremiah expressed (31:19), “Is Ephraim My favorite son or a delightful child, that whenever I speak of him, I remember him more and more?”

If Klal Yisrael is so precious to HaShem, how much more so do we need to honor and respect our friend, speak of his praises, and give him every type of support and assistance.

We must grant him the honor that is fitting for the beloved son of HaKodesh Baruch Hu.

With this approach, we will unite as “one man, with one heart.”

Then we will merit the quality of Torah that will grant us our share in the World to Come.
