The Highest Priority
HaShem appeared to Moshe and told him of the life-threatening plight of Klal Yisrael in Egypt. In light of the their danger and suffering, HaShem instructed Moshe to immediately go to Egypt and free Klal Yisrael from slavery. Despite the urgency of this mission, Moshe told HaShem that he could not go to Egypt without first asking permission from Yisro. He explained, "Yisro opened his home to me, fed me, gave me his daughter to marry, and took care of me like a son. I owe him my life."
Lesson: The heartfelt sense of gratitude that Moshe held for Yisro's kindness was the fulfillment of a precious Mitzvah. Moshe was correct to delay his incomparably great mission to rescue Klal Yisrael, in order to show appreciation and respect to his father-in-law.
Visualization: Envision the sense of gratitude that Moshe held deep in his heart for Yisro. Hear Moshe expressing to HaShem, that he must ask permission from Yisro before leaving on his mission to free Klal Yisrael from slavery. Contemplate on your family members and friends, and strengthen your appreciation and show them love for their kindness. (Based on the Midrash Tanchuma as cited by the Sifsei Chaim)
