SF - The Secret Meaning of Prayer

The Secret Meaning of Prayer

Our ancestors witnessed great miracles in Egypt. These phenomenal events demonstrated that HaShem masters over nature, according to His will. This awesome truth inspired our ancestors to pray to HaShem to rescue them from their slavery. Their prayer was a pure expression of their trust in HaShem, for one who does not trust in HaShem does not pray. As a result of their faith and trust, HaShem answered their prayers and took them out of Egypt "on eagles wings."

Lesson: The faith of our fathers that HaShem is the Master of the universe, merited them with a miraculous redemption. So too, when we remember the miracles of the Exodus we are inspired to place our trust in HaShem. On the merit of our trust and faith, HaShem will answer all of our prayers.

Visualization: Envision yourself as a Jewish slave in Egypt. Hear Moshe Rabenu tell Pharoah that if he does not release Klal Yisrael, all the waters of Egypt will turn to blood. Imagine all the rivers and waters of Egypt instantaneously turning into blood. Be inspired to trust in HaShem, pray to Him, and merit HaShem's miraculous redemption!
(Based on the commentary of Rabenu Yona to Brachos 4b)
