| “In You, Hashem, I take refuge; may I never be ashamed.” (Tehillim 71:1–2)
Only the persistent entreaty of Hashem — prayer after prayer — strengthens and illuminates the light of the Divine Presence and the People of Israel. Through such unwavering tefillah, the Holy King is awakened to rescue His beloved children from the hands of their enemies. The Divine Presence and Her children, the People of Israel, take refuge in His holy Name, as the verse declares: “‘My portion is Hashem,’ says my soul” (Eichah 3:24).
It is inconceivable that the People of Israel should remain in shame forever, barred from beholding His light and receiving Divine assistance. Such concealment of Hashem’s revealed salvation would constitute a diminishment of His honor. Therefore, the Psalmist pleads: “In You, Hashem, I take refuge; may I never be ashamed.”
There is also, as it were, an aspect of shame borne by the Divine Presence itself, and Hashem does not tolerate Her suffering. Because He is bound to righteousness and kindness, He awakens to redeem Her and to remove both Her and His people from disgrace.
Today: The path is clear: pray to Hashem again and again — with constancy and faith — and through this, awaken the light of Divine redemption. (Based on the commentary of Rabbi Moshe David Valli to Tehillim)
