SF - # The Miracle of Love

Two great miracles took place during Chanukah: a small group of devoted Torah scholars overcame the mighty Greek army, and a single cruse of oil burned for eight full days. Yet, when we celebrate Chanukah, the primary focus is placed on the miracle of the lights, while the military victory receives far less emphasis. Why is this so?

The essence of serving HaShem lies in a person’s recognition of Divine providence in every aspect of life. Through the miracle of the oil—something seemingly small and hidden—we came to recognize how precious our mitzvos are to HaShem. The oil was not merely a technical necessity for lighting the Menorah; it represented the loving bond between HaShem and His people. Just as we cherish the opportunity to fulfill His commandments, we learned that our mitzvos, too, are cherished Above.

This realization filled Klal Yisrael with deep encouragement and joy. The miracle of the oil revealed that HaShem delights in our spiritual efforts and treasures even the quiet, faithful acts of devotion performed in purity and sincerity. There is no greater joy than knowing that HaShem delights in the mitzvos of Klal Yisrael.

Today: When lighting your Menorah, pause and reflect on the Holy Shechinah drawing close to you and surrounding you. Rejoice in the knowledge that your mitzvos are infinitely precious, beautiful, and beloved to HaShem.
