“A Song of Ascents. In my great distress I called to HaShem, and He answered me” (Tehillim 120:1). The word tzarah (distress) here is written with a ת, the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, hinting to the ultimate level of hardship. King David teaches that moments of deepest crisis are the very times to cry out to HaShem. Though sometimes prayers seem delayed—like Sarah Imeinu, who waited decades before her son was born—more often HaShem answers immediately with compassion. When Israel stood trapped between the Red Sea and the pursuing Egyptians, their desperate cry pierced the heavens, and HaShem split the sea in an instant. Likewise, David himself offered thanks for the countless times HaShem delivered him from danger. Today: So too for us: in our darkest hours, never despair.
