| "You shall not despise the Edomite, for he is your brother" (Devarim 23:8).
This verse carries a hidden encouragement for our spiritual journey. The term Edomite—literally “red”—alludes to sin, as in the verse, “Though your sins be as red as scarlet, they shall become white as snow.” The Torah teaches: do not despise your sins as irredeemable. Instead, know that they can be transformed. Through sincere teshuvah performed with love of HaShem, past misdeeds can become “your brother”—not despised, but cherished, even transformed into merits. As our Sages teach: “Intentional sins, through repentance from love, become merits.”
Human nature is to feel crushed by past mistakes, yet the Torah reminds us to remain hopeful. In His boundless compassion, HaShem enables sincere repentance to turn darkness into light, and sins into mitzvot.
Today: Picture a scarlet garment, stained deep red. Now see it change before your eyes, becoming pure white as snow. In the same way, envision your past sins transformed through teshuvah into mitzvot, light, and endless merit. (Based on the commentary of the Yesod HaTorah)
