SF - # The Spider’s Web of # Salvation

“With my voice I cry out to HaShem, with my voice I ask HaShem for a free gift” (Tehillim 104:2).

When King Saul pursued David and his 600 men, they hid in a cave. There was no chance Saul would overlook them—until a spider quickly spun a web across the entrance. Seeing the web, Saul assumed the cave was empty and even entered it to relieve himself, never realizing David was inside.

What brought about this miracle? David had learned from Moshe Rabbeinu that one prayer is always answered: to beg HaShem for a “free gift,” acknowledging one’s own lack of merit. David cried out with these “code words,” and Heaven responded with compassion.

Later, David cut a piece from Saul’s garment, proving he could have killed him but chose restraint. Saul recognized this as a sign that David was destined to be king.

Today: So too, let us plead with HaShem for a “free gift.” In our humility, He will surely hear our prayers.
