"Wisdom gives life to the living." (Koheles 7:12)
At first glance, we may equate wisdom with sharp intellect, clever reasoning, or the ability to solve complex problems. But Shlomo HaMelech teaches us that wisdom is far deeper—it is not merely an ornament of the mind, but a source of vitality itself. True wisdom is a life-giving force. It nurtures, sustains, and uplifts.
When we consider HaShem’s wisdom, we see this truth in its highest form. Divine wisdom is not abstract knowledge, but the very blueprint of creation, the fountain from which all existence flows. Every breath we take, every heartbeat, every spark of life in the universe—all are sustained through the wisdom of the Creator. In this sense, wisdom is not only guidance for living, but life itself.
The verse teaches us that HaShem’s wisdom addresses the most essential need of His creatures: the incomparable gift of life. From the greatest to the smallest being, Divine wisdom ensures that life continues and flourishes.
Today: Just as HaShem’s wisdom imparts life, so too can we, in our limited way, infuse life into others. When we show concern for another person’s needs—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—we are giving them renewed vitality. Reflect on how you can enrich the lives of those around you: with kindness in matters of this world, and with encouragement and inspiration for their eternal share in the World to Come.
